  • From the various reviews here on TripAdvisor, my partner and I decided to take the hike to the canyon and river Erzen. To get there, take the path that leads to the Black cave, but we plan to stop us. We understand then that from the village of Pellumbes (finally useful for parking) the path to the left leads almost directly to the River, while keeping to the right along the hiking trail real passing between countryside and forest, climbs in height offering wonderful views of the river and region from the top, then down towards the river. We Park, coffee, and at 9 we start following the trail from the village, keeping to the right, heading for the Black cave, but primarily to the canyon and then the river. Are we alone, no other person met for all the hours spent in this area. Nice trail, well marked (marked in white-red), not extremely challenging but still quite twisty and steep: proper shoes needed. After 1 hour (including breaks pictures and water) we arrive at the entrance of the cave without spotlights and equipment is not recommended to visit. Indeed as expected we peeked briefly inside and then go in search of the river Erzen. Here begins the fun part: starting from now, to continue, the trail is no longer marked. One senses a ground wire just beat that just makes you imagine a path down very steeply and abruptly towards the river. Then we go down, but after a few metres, it is clear that it may not be the appropriate way to go down the River, why don't you just slip on a slope, trying to cling to a tree as possible to avoid free fall. If this is the way "official" it would be good to warn that is not purely a walk, and that a real trail there is! Go back retracing their steps is impossible because it would advance all fours clinging to the ground with his hands, and it doesn't seem normal for a hiking amateur! We continue to slip resigned towards the River, where we find the beautiful canyon. Beautiful, clear blue water, smooth white rocks through which flows the river tumbling waterfalls high sometimes several tens of meters. The problem is that we don't know how to proceed! Go back to where we got is not possible, then in intuition we decided to drive along the River in the direction of the current, willing even to get into it, except that it is precisely by canyon, so the river is several metres below us at peak of rock walls. Unfortunately the beauty of the area has been partly tarnished by the anxiety of not knowing how to proceed. Climbing rocks, and bushwhacking through the Woods we continued for twenty minutes following an impromptu Street along the River, almost hoping to find waste here and there (unfortunately the previous trail was full) with left the slope of Woods, right on the cliff of the canyon on the river! Finally on a rock we see again a red-white! We ribeccato the trail that would have returned to Pellumbes. We thought that we would find the river later, but it was not, and fortunately a kid met on the street tells us that actually had to turn from the main trail and venture into the Bush down towards the river. Eventually we got there and we enjoyed the cool water, white rocks of Erzen. It was a thrilling path a lot due to the lack of signs of the trail so I don't think you can define suitable for everyone (hence the 4 star rating) but the efforts are worth the view of landscapes, the colours of the river and swim If you can find it!

  • The hike itself and the canyon are beautiful. The trail is not too much travelled, but is marked quite well. Starting point: at the very end of Pellumbas village where you need to park your car. There is a restaurant and a store at this point, and the owner will be glad to explain exactly how to get to the river and the canyon. Even offered that one of his boys will guide us there, but there is no need, as the explanations are good and the trail is marked. In general start at the left side of the school, to the clear trail which goes behind the houses and then follow the white-red-white mark. For the river keep to the left, and for the canyon keep to the right. It’s ~30min one way down and then up on the way back. Not too difficult hike. The water are cold! Same starting point to the black cave. We didn’t go there, but the guy said it’s ~45min one way.
