Must see · Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Visit one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines at Shree Bhimashankar Jyotirling Mandir, dedicated to one of the manifestations of Shiva. Located in a remote area at the source of a long river, the ancient temple dates back to around the 13th century CE, when the shrine was first mentioned in literature. Admire the artistry of the towering shikhara, built by influential statesman Nana Phadnavis during the 18th century. Learn about the story behind the Jyotirlinga shrines--each said to mark a site where Shiva appeared as a column of light--and explore the pleasant wilderness that surrounds the temple, now home to a nature reserve with hiking trails and bird-watching opportunities. • Nice place. Temple is very old and in good condition. There are too many steps, though sitting places are arranged to take rest. Surround greenery is very nice. Do visit during rainy season, and enjoy the divine and natural surroundings. Roads are good.
  • BEAUTIFUL,AMAZING, FANTASTIC. 'Nature's beauty at its best' .I am glad that I visited this place in rainy season. The route to the temple is wonderful, there are so many mountains on the way to the temple. There was dense fog, the visibility was less than 10m. The perfect time to visit this temple is in the monsoon.
