Gyuto Monastery, Dharamsala

4.5
#3 of 15 in Historic Sites in Dharamsala
A notable institution of the Gelug Order, Gyuto Monastery serves as the center of learning for Tantric rituals, Tantric meditation, and Buddhist philosophy. Founded in 1474 by Jetsun Kunga Dhondup, a disciple of the first Dalai Lama, the monastery complex provides a home for over 500 practicing monks maintaining Tibetan Buddhist tradition. The buildings glow bold yellow, and stand in marvelous contrast to the backdrop of snow-capped mountains. Plan my trip to Dharamsala with suggested itineraries provided by Inspirock.

  • Beautiful and calm place. Temple is clean and people are very disciplined. It has a nice view of the Himalayan range from the top.
  • Nice place for meditation. The prayer hall was nice and have some good energy. The view in the back was just amazing. Mountains with covered snow looks beautiful.
