Hosur is an Industrial town and a municipality in Krishnagiri district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Original name of the town is 'Murasu Naadu' as per the stone inscription found in both the hill temples. It was also called as 'Chavida Naadu'"In Kannada language Hosur means, "new place or locality". It is the largest town in the Krishnagiri District of Tamil Nadu and is the headquarters of the Hosur taluk. It is located about 35km from Bangalore, 48km from Krishnagiri, 82 kilometres from dharmapuri, 174 Km West from Industrial City Vellore and 306km west of Chennai, the state capital. Hosur is the gateway to Karnataka's Capital City from Tamil Nadu and serves as the satellite town of Bangalore. Hosur assembly constituency is part of Krishnagiri Lok Sabha constituency.HistoryHosur was part of Mysore Kingdom until 1799, when Tipu Sultan lost the third Anglo-Mysore war, he handed over southern part of Mysore kingdom as a part settlement to English government.
