India Gate, New Delhi
Standing astride the capital's grandest ceremonial road, India Gate pays tribute to the soldiers of the colonial Indian Army who lost their lives fighting for Britain in World War I. In the heart of the capital's main governmental district, the triumphal arch-style gate rises to a height of 42 m (138 ft) over the road below. Wander around the base of the gate to see the imposing stone structure up close, and be sure to look up at the cornices to see the inscriptions dedicated to more than 82,000 Indian soldiers who died fighting in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and elsewhere between 1914 and 1919. Don't miss seeing the small memorial beneath the gate's archway, a flame dedicated to the unknown soldier. The initial stone was laid on 10 February 1921 by the Duke of Connaught. The names of the soldiers who died in these wars are on the walls of the monument. Its construction was completed in 1931. Since 1971, an eternal flame, known as Amar Jawan Jyoti (the flame of the immortal warrior), has been under the monument and is dedicated to honoring unknown soldiers killed in clashes between India and Pakistan that took place that same year. The construction of the India Gate, in a distinctly neo-colonial style, began in 1921 and was completed in 1931. Initially under the monument was placed the statue of King George V; statue that disappeared upon India's independence. The monument has a total height of 42 meters and is located at the confluence of several important streets. Traffic around the triumphal arch is often a source of conflict due to continued traffic cuts caused by the risk of terrorist attacks. The area where the India Gate is located, surrounded by grassy areas, is often one of the favorite destinations for families in Delhi on public holidays. It is also interesting to walk among people and be able to chat, take photos and eat countless varieties of fast food including the rich "momo". A nice place with lots of people in a relaxed atmosphere and with a wonderful monument!! To visit yes or if.
I visited India gate many times and I love visiting that place. It’s just so pretty and the ambience of the place is so good. There are a lot of eateries and it’s the best picnic spot for everyone. Very safe place. Explore the India gate. See the beauty and feel the positive vibes of that place.
It's an awesome place to visit from evening 4 to 11 pm. It's good to reach by 4pm. Activities keep happening. News channels arrange talk shows. Maintenance is good. Lot of variety in snacks. Tourism department isn't doing good in maintenance and providing infra. The biggest problem is the traffic around the place. Traffic should be diverted. This is the pride of the country. So, the maintenance of path ways, the cleanliness, the discipline and the composure should be cultivated by governance of the place. Toilets are ugly. Anyone can walk over any bushes and spoil the place.
