#5 of 87 in Historic Sites in Goa
Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Wash your feet at the pond of Shanta Durga Temple, a red-colored spectacle with yellow borders, featuring an impressive idol of the goddess Shree Durga flanked by Vishnu and Shiva. Originally built in 1550 out of mud and palm leaves, the present laterite and granite temple structure, a fusion Indo-Portuguese style, was added between 1713 and 1738. The clean and well-managed Hindu temple features a lavish silver palanquin protected by one of the most revered patron deities of the Brahmin community. Bike or drive to the site, some 33 km (20 mi) away from Panaji. Photographs inside the temple are not allowed.
