Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Leinster / County Dublin / Dublin / Kilmainham Gaol Museum
Kilmainham Gaol Museum turns the clock back a few decades, offering you a look inside one of history's most notorious prisons. The imposing gray building played a key role in Irish history for over a century, finally closing its doors in 1924. Before then it provided a grim setting for the imprisonment of notable participants in the many uprisings for Irish independence, culminating in the execution of 14 men who led a rebellion that took place during Easter week in 1916. You can take a guided walk through the history of this eerie site, now one of Europe's largest unoccupied structures of its kind. Before you leave, look in on the yard where the infamous 1916 executions took place. To plan Dublin vacation without wasting time, ask Inspirock to design an itinerary.

Kilmainham Gaol Museum Reviews
A Dublin must see. Guided tours are passionately related and feeling the atmosphere a real authentic experience. The museum is rich and vibrant and any queue well worth putting up with. more »
Worth the visit. Part of the history of Eire. It makes you aware of the suffering and the struggle that inhabited within its walls. more »
Absolutely brilliant! A must see if you're visiting Dublin. The tour guide was incredibly engaging and knowledgeable. My partner thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would definitely go back again. Definitely book ahead as there can be a long wait time. The history of the jail is very interesting and quite shocking, it told the story of Ireland during very difficult times.
I really enjoy this experience of visiting this old prison. The visit is made by a guide and you cannot walk around alone. It's perfect because the guide tells a lot of stories about Ireland history so it's really interesting. The prison itself is an old place and everything is the same since then so it gave an even more interesting experience.
