Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
For shopping fun, head to Museu Calouste Gulbenkian or Rossio Square. Visit Mosteiro dos Jeronimos and Quinta da Regaleira for their historical value. Venture out of the city with trips to Sintra (Castelo dos Mouros & Park and National Palace of Pena). There's lots more to do: admire the masterpieces at Museu Nacional do Azulejo, see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, make a trip to Belém Tower, and admire nature's wide array of creatures at Lisbon Oceanarium.

Though the town of Sagres has roots in the Portuguese Age of Discovery, it is better known by visitors as a peaceful, rugged resort spot with great surfing beaches.
