As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
Visiting Poca Da Dona Beija and Lagoa do Fogo will get you outdoors. Discover out-of-the-way places like Caldeira das Sete Cidades and Caldeira Velha Environmental Interpretation Centre. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Blandy's Wine Lodge and Caravel Art Center. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Ponta de Sao Lourenco and 25 Fontes Falls. Step out of Funchal with an excursion to Porto Moniz Natural Swimming Pools in Porto Moniz--about 54 minutes away.
