Home to medieval castle fortifications, a host of churches, and the seat of Estonia's parliament, Toompea Hill has represented the epicenter of power for Tallinn's rulers throughout history. You can make your way from the lower portion of the World Heritage-listed old town to the top of the hill via a long cobbled walkway. You'll pass by a ninth-century fortress that houses the seat of the national government, the Russian Orthodox cathedral, and the 124 m (407 ft) tall church of St. Olaf. For a basic tour of the upper town, follow the remains of the city's walls around their perimeter, stopping for photos at the viewing platforms along the way. See Toompea Hill and all Tallinn has to offer by arranging your trip with our Tallinn journey planner.

While it is a must do in Tallin, try to go when it's not too crowded aka the morning. You get a great view on the city. Worth the little walk up there!

The Toompea hill and Castle are located near the famous Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and it’s also 10 minutes walking distance from the Old town main square. We didn’t visit the building inside, and we saw there were English tours that you could book, but we won’t had enough time and we decided to walk around and check the beautiful views that this place has from Tallinn old town city and we think it’s a nice place to explore a little more if you have more time. Eli: 5 / Serge: 5 Recommended: Yes, the area has a beautiful view even if you don’t visit the places inside. Tips: - Comfortable shoes are recommended, since the pavement of the Old Town streets, in general, are made with paving stones.
