Vik
Iceland's southernmost village, Vik, sports some of the country's wildest and most dramatic coastline. Fewer than 300 people call this town home, although it is the largest settlement for some distance in this relatively unpopulated part of the world. There are few cultural attractions here, but Vik more than compensates for this with its striking beach. Cliffs rise above a long stretch of black basalt sand, and you can often spot puffins nesting there. Be warned, the sea can be very powerful here, as there is no landmass between this section of coast and Antarctica. Use our Iceland trip planner to arrange the details of your trip to Vik and other destinations.
