Bir
Bir serves as the regional hub for ecotourism, volunteering, and meditation retreats. Originally founded by immigrants from Bengal in the early 17th century, the town welcomed Tibetan refugees in 1966 after the exile of the Dalai Lama from Tibet. They started the Bir Tibetan Colony at the west end of the neighboring village of Chowgan and a center for the study of classical Indian wisdom traditions. This small, picturesque town with golden roofed Buddhist temples was also dubbed "Paragliding Capital of India." Other adventurous things to do in Bir include trekking, camping, bungee jumping, ziplining, and river rafting. With the Inspirock custom trip planner, Bir and other destinations across the globe can be made central to your personalized travel plans.
