At Latvian War Museum learn about the political and military history of the country. Told through photographs and awards, the story of Latvia also unfolds through displays of weapons and objects that once belonged to the military. In addition to outlining the country's experience through two world wars, the museum provides exhibits from medieval times to the modern day. View uniforms and helmets used in battle or size up grenades of different powers and dimensions. Dioramas depict historic moments and give insight into the war experience. Tour the museum on your own or request a self-guided tour via your phone or the website. See Latvian War Museum and all Riga has to offer by arranging your trip with our Riga trip planner.

Free entrance. There was a lot to see. English signs were not always available. There was a deactivated machine gun you could fiddle with.

Well worth visiting! Especially the parts about the First World War and the subsequently Latvian War of Independence are very interesting and impressive. These parts of history are too little known in the western part of Europe. My admiration of the Baltic people in general and the Latvian in particular has grown much after visiting this fine museum in Riga.
This is an amazing place and if you want to visit all floors and rooms, read the desceiptions and actually learn some history - prepare a few spare hours. It is good for a quick visit too but it will just be to see what is what. Too bad this place is not adjusted for handicaped people. Entrance is free. Bags and backpacks need to be left in a locker. No parking there - spots can be found on some nearby streats. I will visit he museum again for sure, once back in Riga, as before I only had 1 hour and that was not enough. I truly recommend it if you like military and history.
