Constitution Hill Human Rights Precinct
Take a tour of Constitution Hill Human Rights Precinct, a hilltop precinct that overlooks the downtown area and serves as the home of the Constitutional Court of South Africa. Built in the late 19th century by Boer settlers, the complex was used as a prison until 1987--prominent figures like Nelson and Winnie Mandela, as well as Mahatma Gandhi were jailed here. On a tour of the complex, now a museum, you can delve into the country's turbulent history, human rights struggles, and democratic progress. We only had time for a short visit but it left quite an impression. I loved visiting the still operating courthouse and the former prison, including the cell where Mendela stayed. Much to see here.

Buying tickets in advance is very helpful because less human contact. And the carport parking is also available free of charge. Make sure you arrive early because there is so much to see and so much to read. Usually on the 21st of March each year there is a human right a festival on the upper tier of the museum. Ticket at R90 for self-guided. 120 for guided tours. This is one of the best museum about South African apartheid make sure you visit it.

Safe environment for the whole family - friendly and helpful guards posted around the precinct. Our tour guide Pearl was amazing and the tour itself was very informative. Would 100% recommend a visit and the guided tour to anyone. Tip: book your tickets online it's quick and easy.
