Aswan — 1 night

Plan an Aswan holiday and treat yourself to ancient wonders of the past along the Nile River.
On the 16th (Wed), head off the coast to Elephantine Island and then make a trip to Aswan Sculpture Park. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 17th (Thu): make a trip to Philae Temple, then steep yourself in history at Nubian Village, then explore the ancient world of Unfinished Obelisk, and finally get engrossed in the history at Nubian Museum.

Cairo to Aswan is an approximately 3-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Expect a bit warmer weather when traveling from Cairo in January: highs in Aswan hover around 26°C, while lows dip to 11°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 17th (Thu) so you can go by car to Luxor.

You can drive from Aswan to Luxor in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. Traveling from Aswan in January, expect a bit cooler with lows of 8°C in Luxor. Cap off your sightseeing on the 20th (Sun) early enough to catch the flight to Cairo.

More than 20 million people call Cairo their home and, as soon as you set foot in the sprawling metropolis, it's evident they make it crowded and chaotic, but also exuberant and charming.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Cairo: Giza (Pyramids of Giza & Great Sphinx) and Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids (in Saqqara). There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, take in the spiritual surroundings of Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hassan, steep yourself in history at Mosque of Muhammad Ali, and get a taste of the local shopping with Khan Al-Khalili.

Getting from Luxor to Cairo by flight takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a train. When traveling from Luxor in January, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Cairo: temperatures range from 21°C by day to 11°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Wed) early enough to travel back home.
